A Salty Love Story

He met her on a party. She was so outstanding that many guys were already chasing after her. He suddenly felt so normal, he noticed that nobody was paying attention to him.

At the end of the party, he invited her to have coffee with him. She was surprised, but due to being polite, she promised. They sat in a nice coffee shop,he was too nervous to say anything, she felt uncomfortable she thought, please let me go home...

Suddenly he asked the waiter, "would you please give me some salt? I'd like to put it in my coffee."

Everybody stared at him in shock! His face turned red,but still,he put the salt in his coffee and drank it.

She asked him curiously: is this not a strange habit?
He replied "when I was a little boy, I was living near to sea. I enjoyed playing in the sea, I could feel the taste of the sea. I guess I simply like the taste of the
salty coffee. Now every time I have the salty coffee, I always think of my childhood, think of my hometown, I miss my hometown so much, I miss my parents who are still living there".

While saying that tears filled his eyes. She was deeply touched. That's his true feeling, from the bottom of his heart. A man who can talk out his homesickness, he must be a man who loves home, cares about home, and assumes responsibility of home.

Then she also started talking about herself, about her faraway hometown, her childhood, her family. That was a really nice discussion, but also the beginning of a very beautiful story. They continued to date. She soon realised that actually he was the man who checked all the boxes; he was tolerant, kind, warm hearted, attentive and caring. He was a true diamond that she nearly missed! But no, no - thanks to his salty coffee!

The rest of the story goes just like any beautiful love story , the princess married the prince, they lived a happy life...

And,every time she made his coffee, she put some salt in it, as she knew that's the way he liked it. After 40 years he passed away but left behind him a letter addressed to the woman he loved the most in his life which read:

'My dearest, please forgive me, forgive the lie of my whole life. This was the only lie I've ever told you. The salty coffee. Remember the first time we dated? I was so nervous at that time. I only meant to ask for some sugar, but I said salt. I did. I could not change what I said so I just carried along..I never thought that exact moment of immense embarrassment would be the start of our communication! I tried to tell you the truth many times in the course of our beautiful and happy life, but I was too afraid, too scared...

Remember I promised not to lie to you about anything, ever? I do my love and I always did. Now I'm dying, I afraid of nothing so I can tell you the truth: I don't like the salty coffee. Oh, what a strange bad taste.. But I have had the salty coffee every day in my whole life! Since I've met you, I never felt sorry for anything I did for you, for us.

Having you with me has all I could ask for. A salty coffee could not take all the happiness away.

Her tears made the letter totally wet. Someday, someone asked her: what does salty coffee taste like?

"It's sweet." She replied.

Love is not to forget but to forgive.
Wait for the one who turns to his friends and says, '...that's her.'
